Attorney General Nominee Could Threaten Marijuana Legalization
During lunch the other day, my friend said that he doesn’t think there is much need for his marijuana advocacy anymore. He, a long-time marijuana advocate, had just witnessed his home state of Massachusetts legalize marijuana. But, the winds of change may also bring about a new era on a federal level. To my friend, I say, your work is still needed.
As most everyone knows, marijuana is still illegal federally. But, for the last several years, the Obama administration chose not to strictly enforce federal marijuana laws.
The news is that there is a possibility a new Attorney General gets appointed with very anti-marijuana views. The Trump administration has nominated Jeff Sessions. His views on marijuana legalization are aligned with the Regan-era. Below are videos of him a various Senate hearings.
Also, it is worth noting, President-Elect Trump has stated that it should be left to the states. (But, who knows who said what. This election has proven that the internet is full of lies. Here’s a list of Trumps’s views on Marijuana, but, again, who knows.)
